Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q was founded in 1979 in Indian Beach, North Carolina, rooted in Eastern North Carolina barbecue traditions. From the beginning, the focus was simple: prepare food the right way and welcome every guest with genuine hospitality. What started as a local restaurant quickly became a community staple built on consistency and care.
As the brand grew, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q stayed true to its roots, providing fresh, made-from-scratch food and a dining experience shaped by Southern hospitality. The atmosphere reflects its heritage: familiar flavors, welcoming service, and a setting that feels close to home.
Today, Smithfield’s continues to carry forward nearly five decades of tradition, serving communities across North Carolina while honoring the values that shaped the first restaurant in the 70’s.
Mr. Moore is our Founder and has been a Director since 1986 serving in Cary, NC. He founded the SMITHFIELD’S CHICKEN ‘N BAR-B-Q Restaurant concept in 1979. He is also the Chairman of the board of Cary Keisler and has served in that position since 1986 out of Cary, NC.
Mr. Starling is our President and has occupied this position since March 2018 serving in Cary, NC. Mr. Starling also serves as the managing partner in the law firm of Daughtry, Woodard, Lawrence & Starling located in Smithfield, NC and has occupied this position since 1993.
Mr. Moore has fulfilled various roles in the operation of the brand since 2007 including store management, multi-unit, Director of Quality Assurance (franchisee interface and inspections), franchisee. Mr. Moore currently serves as our Vice President, and Vice President and Director of Operations of Cary Keisler, in Cary, North Carolina and has since 2018.
